These seed pods are bad, when the river rises these will drop & new plants will grow.....I forget the name of the plant but it's something they don't want growing there because it takes over & makes it hard for the good plants to grow.
These plants are dangerous to mammals, so Aquarius Aquarium Institute sponsored a river clean up and had local 5th graders from all over the valley come and clean up! The kids had to carefully pull off the seed pods, then pull up the plant....hard work for a good cause.
We saw lots of interesting things on the floor of the San Joaquin River....the most interesting (to me) was the fresh water clams, they look just like the salt water clams but smaller.
Mia did her part while trying to stay clean at the same time...there is a lot of dirt on the river bottom! Mia managed to find a little plant with a few seed pods on it with out having to go too deep into the bush!!
Getting instructions on how to properly pull up the bad plants
Here come the kids !!!
